Vigil held for 4 teenagers killed in Hickory Hills crash after car splits in part


HICKORY HILLS, Ill. (WLS) — A balloon unlock and a memorial honors the lives of 4 youngsters that have been killed in a automobile crash in suburban Hickory Hills Saturday afternoon.

“They were babies, 17, 16, 15, like that is no way to end their life for a temporary enjoyment you could say,” stated Jocelyn Gonzalez, a pal of the sufferers.

Family participants of those that misplaced their lives stated the teenage motive force of an Mercedes SUV misplaced regulate simply earlier than 2:30 p.m. at 89th Street and eighty fifth Court.

A complete of six teenagers have been throughout the SUV when it smashed right into a tree, splitting the car in part. Only two survived, the motive force and front-seat passenger.

Two of the teenagers died at the scene and two others died on the health facility, in step with officers

Family participants recognized those that misplaced their lives as Omarion Rieves, Jemerrio Rieves, Nathan Phillips. The Cook County Medical Examiner has launched the identiy of the ourth sufferer, Destiny Giera.

All of the sufferers have been below the age of 18.

The two Rieves boys have been brothers.

“I know that it is hard when people have to bury one child, but to bury two at the same time,” stated Leontyne Walker, who misplaced two sons within the crash.

“Usually they check-in and when I did not hear anything, as a mom, you get a gut feeling like something ain’t right,” Walker stated.

The teenagers all taken too quickly.

“Omarion was supposed to start football camp tomorrow. He just took his senior pics,” she stated.

At this time, officers have no longer stated what led to the crash.

“They were just trying to have fun but it is not worth it, because look now, we are here. Now I have to bury both of my boys,” Walker stated.
