Investigators are asking for the public’s help after a woman died and a man was seriously injured in a fire in Derry, New Hampshire. Crews were called to 27 Mount Pleasant St. just after 10 p.m. Sunday. Gunshots were reportedly heard before the residence became engulfed in flames, investigators said.“It was pretty chaotic,” a witness said. “There were a lot of police.”When first responders arrived, the home was engulfed. Three Derry police officers were able to gain entry where they found an unconscious and injured man on the kitchen floor. Because of smoke and fire, the officers were unable to re-enter the home. “When they heard the explosion, they looked out the window, and I think a couple of neighbors that live further down ran up to the house and went into the house, I think,” the witness said. After the fire was extinguished, crews found the body of a woman, investigators said. The man is believed to be the homeowner, Manoel Viana, 57, and the victim is believed to be his wife, Lynn Marie Viana, 53, formerly of Derry. Manoel Viana is being treated for life-threatening injuries at a Boston hospital. An autopsy will be performed on Lynn Marie Viana to determine the cause and manner of her death. Three officers who rescued Manoel Viana were injured, but have been treated and released from a local hospital. Investigators are asking for information about Manoel Viana’s whereabouts and activities before the fire. Investigators are also asking residents in the neighborhood to contact them if they have any security cameras that may have captured this incident or any preceding events. Investigators said there is no threat to the public.
